Sometimes, stringing together prayers for your children can be difficult. You want the best life for them, but how do you ask God for it? When you are struggling to put together how to ask God to watch over your family, here are seven daily prayers to keep in mind for your children.
1. Pray for Their Salvation
Pray that your children will come to know the Lord and serve Him. It is never too late, continue this prayer every day, even if your children are grown.
2. Pray for Their Calling
Often, parents impress the future calling they desire onto their children without even realizing it. Pray that God will call them to the area they are meant to work in. It is the parents job to teach them the skills they need to be a successful adult, but God’s to call them where they are meant to be.
3. Pray for Their Wisdom
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. Proverbs 3:6-7
While you want your children to absorb knowledge, pray that they also grow in wisdom. Wisdom is a disposition toward God and a way of walking life’s path. Our desire is for our children to realize that their lives are being lived under the watchful eye of the righteous and holy Creator of the universe, and wisdom begins with a fear of the Lord.
4. Pray for Their Maturity
Rather than praying for your child to be taller or more athletic, pray that they use their bodies to glorify God. Your desire should be for your children to grow into the full meaning of what it means to be made in image of God in both body and soul.
5. Pray for Their Protection
But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. 2 Thessalonians 3:3
Ask God to place a solid protective hedge around your children and protect them from evil and temptation.
6. Pray for Their Conscience
Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly. Hebrews 13:18
It may seem counterintuitive, but pray that they get caught if they lie, cheat, or steal. Getting caught is a learning experience that helps them to learn why those things are wrong and develop a conscience that will help them later in life.
7. Pray for Their Future Spouse
When praying for the future spouse of your children, ask that they will come from godly homes and have an appetite to live the spiritual truth they’ve learned. Pray that their goals will align with the ones you have established for your family and that they treat your child the way a Godly spouse should. It is never too early to start praying for your child’s future.
There are many other ways to pray for your children, but you can use these to start.
